Last Sunday was the 3oth anniversary of the Sinulog Mardi Gras. The Sinulog is an annual festival celebrated by Cebuanos in honor of the child Jesus, the Sto. Niño, whose image was brought in by Magellan during the 16th century as a gift of friendship to Queen Juana and Rajah Humabon. I hope I got my facts right or my history teacher is gonna kill me. LOL.
The morning started with a drizzle so me and the boy intentionally went to the parade route past lunch coz we were too lazy to get our asses off from bed on a rainy and cozy Sunday.tehehe But the Sto. Niño must have heard the collective prayers of the devotees because the sun went up during noon. Sinulog always means that all major roads are closed for the day so we had no choice but to walk under the scorching and need I say BITING heat of the sun. Walking during Sinulog is always fun though because the streets are so alive with drum beats, cheers, and colorful buntings scattered everywhere. We were only half an hour observing the different street dance contingents when it started to drizzle again so we were forced to retreat to the nearest shed which was already jampacked with drenched spectators. Our company annually joins the Sinulog float competition so when the float got near the shed, we decided to join in the parade as delegates. The drizzle turned into a heavy downpour but that never stopped us from dancing and celebrating. I was nursing a cough days before the parade but that day I simply didn't care.
We then proceeded to Ayala mall to witness the grand fireworks display as finale of the day.I have missed the fireworks for three consecutive years already so even if my boyfriend incessantly asked me that we should eat dinner first before we see it, I declined for fear that I might miss it again for the fourth time. So we waited 2 1/2 hours squatting in the strategic area of the parking lot before the fireworks came off at around 10:30 p.m.But oh my, it did not disappoint. The best ever!
By then, we were already too hungry but all restaurants were full so we had to wait another half an hour to be seated. I don't know why were feeling antisocial that night so we capped off the day with a few drinks, just the two of us, and sang along to some freddie mercury and eraserhead songs played by a live band. The street party was still so much alive at 3:30 am when we got home. I awoke at 9:30 am to a throbbing pain in my throat; I missed my work and felt very sick. But I got no regrets because it was one of the best Sinulog of my life ever!

We weren't able to shoot a lot of the street dancers this time around. But to give you an idea of the festivities, I am posting here our shots of the mardi gras last year. tehehe

Hope you enjoy them!

The best thing about where I live is everything is just accessible. The city, the beach, and the mountain view is just a few minutes away. Of course, the white sand beaches are up north but they're also not that far. But if you're really craving for a spur of the moment beach getaway, there's always Mactan Island, a thirty-minute ride from the mainland. And for cool breeze, there's always Busay to go to. It's very beautiful by day and breathtaking at night. The cool air is not like Baguio but but it's the best that we can get especially if you want to escape the scorching heat of the city. Although the traffic situation in the city is slowly mirroring that of Manila, I am still blessed that I could still get to the office in twenty minutes. tehehe

This padded and glittery beauty which I purchased at my favorite thrift shop for a mere PhP 50 ($1)with a price tag still on is one of the reasons why I love thrifting so much! It's the thrill of scanning through hangers-full of clothes and seeing wonders like this that makes it more rewarding. And the greatest bonus of all is that you get to own a piece which doesn't make you look like everybody else and paying only as much as a pack of french fries.
People who don't know me well thinks I'm high maintenance due to the way I dress, that someone like me who loves fashion so much is a big spender. Oh well, if they only knew. LOL
I truly love buying unique prints even if it's way too big or small for me. When I get home, I just beg my mom to reconstruct it to fit me. Or if she's too busy to do it,well I dig up some of my stock knowledge on sewing from my home economics class back in the day and alter it myself even if that means getting pricked by the needle a gazillion times. See? Fashion brings out the ingenuity in people. LOL

We were brainstorming for February engagement session for one of our clients at our usual Starbucks hangout just one block away from the house, and surprisingly we didn't end up arguing about our creative ideas. Life in the La-la-Love land has been great coz we seldom argue these days. And if ever we do, it's usually about clash of photography ideas. Nothing serious really. I guess we have reached the point that we have matured enough to accept each other's individuality and idiosyncrasies.
Speaking of individuality, fashion-wise, i guess i have greatly evolved from the t-shirt-jeans-sneaker girl in college while he is still in his constant rugged rocker self. LOL No offense coz i like him that way.

Ordinary Day

An ordinary but very rewarding day for me would equate to simply lounging in the coffee shop with my boy, watch passersby, drink my usual caffeine fix of mocha frapuccino, read whatever fashion magazines there is in the rack, discuss with the boyfriend about cool fashion editorials and photography we happen to scan, talk about our work mostly to gossip (LOL!), laugh at each other's jokes, and dream of our future together.
All in all, we're a pretty boring couple who just likes to be just in each other's side.
